Theory

With Polyurethane or TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) is indicated a wide family of polymers whose polymeric chain is composed by urethane links – NH-(CO)-O.

In 1942, William Hanford and Donald Holmes from Du Pont de Nemours & Company, patented the first industrial process for the TPU production.

Polyurethanes are used in the manufacture of flexible, high-resilience foam seating, rigid foam insulation panels, microcellular foam seals and gaskets, elastomeric wheels and tires, automotive suspension bushings, electrical potting compounds, high performance adhesives, surface coatings and surface sealants, synthetic fibers, carpet underlay; hard-plastic parts.

Today the TPU production represents one of the market with a rapid expansion, thanks to the versatility of the polymer.
